Mike Reeves - January 24, 2021

Dear friends of RMC,

It is with great sadness that I report to you the death of our friend, colleague and former RMC Member, Mike Reeves. Mike was bigger than life to so many of us. His career with NYLIC spanned from 1971 starting as an agent in Austin, Texas to his retirement as Senior Vice President of the West Central Zone in 2005. During that time he touched and influenced countless lives. I'm reminded of a quote by Pericles, who said What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.

On a personal note, Mike was very gracious and helpful to Katie and me early in our NYLIC career and was always supportive in the later years as well. I learned allot about business and life from him. I truly value what was woven into my life thru his influence.

We extend our sincere condolences to his wife Janie and the whole Reeves family during this difficult time.

Ross Johnson - December 13, 2020

Dear Friends of RMC,

It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of our friend and colleague Ross Johnson. Ross was loved by so many of us and we were blessed to have him in our lives thru NYLIC and the RMC family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sandy and the whole Johnson family during this difficult time.

From Ross Johnson's obituary:
Passed away in Oakville, surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 91 on December 13th, 2020. Nothing was more important to Ross than his family. He was an insurance icon, a bold leader and a true friend. Born in Calgary, he always considered himself a true “westerner” and was a cowboy in the old school sense. He graduated from UBC and became a sales agent with New York Life Insurance Company where he rose to the position of Canadian Resident Vice President. He went on to become the President and Chief Executive Officer of National Life of Canada and retired as President, Canadian Operations of Prudential Insurance Company of America. He then began a new career as a management consultant and was still going into the office at the age of 90. Predeceased by his wife of 49 years Muriel (Fairley) and daughter Judy. He was the cherished father of Kim, Grant (Jennifer) and Scott (Kristy). Loving “Stanley” to grandchildren Chris (Sarah) Jonathan (Erica) Colleen (Greg) Ross (Ali), Jasmin, Paige, Sydney, and Marshall. Great-grandfather to Quinne, Cleo, Niko and Carson. Special brother-in-law of Grant Fairley, Edmonton. He leaves his devoted Partner Sandra Roy who he shared 20 happy years with.

While Covid currently prevents our gathering to mourn his loss and celebrate his life, wherever you are, we hope you will join us by remembering him with a smile and a memory of time spent together.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to his memory to Canadian Cancer Society

Jerry Hinrichs - June 1, 2020

Dear Friends of RMC,

I am very sorry to report to you that former RMC member, Jerry Hinrichs, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2020. He was 86 years old. His daughter, Jana Rogers, told us he loved being a part of this group and especially the meetings and traveling! He made many great life long friends at New York Life and in the RMC.

I wanted to share some excerpts from his obituary:
________________________________________

Jerry began his joined NYLIC on May 1, 1959 when he was named a Special Representative. Jerry’s career took him and Betty to 9 different offices and 11 positions with such titles as Agency Assistant, Assistant General Manager, Management Assistant, General Manager, Regional Superintendent, Superintendent of Agencies, Regional Vice President, Vice President and Senior Vice President. Jerry thrived in the agency environment – it was not only his career; he considered his business partners and associates as some of his best friends. One associate commented that “He was empathetic with the field members and willing to go the extra mile for the representative. If you were in the home office in New York City – you wanted to pay a visit to Jerry.”

Jerry took great pride in hiring education majors right out of college and mentoring them through their career in the industry. Many went on and had fantastic careers and some started their own agencies successfully specializing in insurance and financial planning.

After a very rewarding and successful career of nearly 30 years with the New York Life, Jerry retired in 1988

Jerry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Betty in 2013. He is survived by his son Jay (Julie) Hinrichs, daughters Jill Rogers and Jana (John) Rogers and 4 grandchildren.

Later this summer, a memorial Mass for Jerry will be held at St. John Vianney Church (901 S. Prairie Ave., Fairmont, Minnesota) on August 1, 2020 at 11 a.m. Visitation at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Fairmont.

Don Edwards - April 30, 2020

Dear RMC Members,

It is with great sadness to tell you that former RMC member, Don Edwards, passed away on April 30, 2020. He was the managing partner in the Austin G.O and either hired or participated in the recruiting of Mike Reeves, Carl Carter, Steve Ray, Max Muñiz, Mike Burson, and many more great NYLICs. He was the NYLIC father for many, many successful managers and agents who came from the Austin general office. He started his career as an agent in Topeka, Kansas. Prior to that, he was a Boy Scout executive. The Topeka General Office invented the "Mailing List" approach, which was the prospecting method many agents used during the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and continues to be used today. When I started my career with NYLIC in 1977 in The Tulsa G.O., I was taught the “Mailing List” approach. I’ve benefited greatly from that prospecting tool and taught it in every general office I worked in, including the Austin G. O. just prior to my retirement. Don’s legacy has had a sweeping impact in many NYLIC lives.

Don is survived by his wife, Linda Edwards, their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. If you would like to share your condolences, Linda may be reached at:

Don’s obituary from the Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers may be found here… While the service has passed, a video of it is available for 30 days at the Lake Ridge Chapel website. There you are encouraged to sign a virtual guestbook and share memories and expressions of sympathy.

Robert "Bud" Baldi - April 28, 2020

Dear RMC Members,

It is with great sadness to tell you that former RMC member, Robert "Bud" Baldi, passed away on April 28, 2020 at the age of 87. Bud had a 33 year career with New York Life, retiring in 1992. He started as an agent, after serving in the Marines, in the Boston G.O. He became a Sales Manager, was a GM in Poughkeepsie and served some time in a Regional office. He was the long time GM of The Commonwealth General Office in Wellesley, MA. He promoted many managers out in to offices and was a mentor to many career managers. He was such a big part of that generation of leaders of NYL. We all are better people because of Bud and his contemporaries.

Bud is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pam Baldi, their children, and grandchildren. If you would like to share your condolences, Pam may be reached at:

53 Robert Best Rd.

Elliott Steiner- April, 2020

Dear Members,

It is with deep sadness to report that Elliott Steiner has passed away after a short illness. Although not a member of the RMC, Elliott was well known to many of us and we are sorry to have lost him.

Due to the circumstances in New York City, there will be no service or gathering at the moment.

Those who kept in close touch with Elliott since his retirement can say that he never changed -- always had a great sense of humor and a willingness to be there for others.

Elliott’s niece Jennifer has indicated to anyone who would like to make a contribution in Elliott’s name, please donate to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (https://www.nationalmssociety.org/Donate).
